As you may know, I worked for Legal Aid Society of Hawaii for more than 8 years. Legal Aid protects the critical legal needs of the poor. When I write critical, I mean obtaining and maintaining housing; food security; protection from domestic violence; and much more. Empowering people in this way allows many to work or go to school and get out of poverty. It's a smart investment and the right thing to do.
